What is the equation for the line below? A. y = 5/2x - 1 B. y = -5/2x + 1 C. y = 2/5x - 1 D. y = -2/5 + 1

OpenStudy (ashes.boom):

okay so the first thing i see is that the y intercept is -1 so we can get rid of any equations that dont have -1 as the last term (b and d)

OpenStudy (ashes.boom):

then we have to decide between 2/5 or 5/2 right? so do you know what the slope of the line represents?

OpenStudy (ashes.boom):

Its okay :) The slope of a line represents the change in x values over the change in y values... basically how one point connects to another point. The slope measures the incline of the line from point to point

OpenStudy (ashes.boom):

if the slope between two points was 3/4 then you would start at one point and move 3 to the right, then 4 up. does that make sense? so for this one you can see that the next point is two to the right and 5 up from the original point right? what does that make the slope??

OpenStudy (anonymous):

A?

OpenStudy (ashes.boom):

almost, remember you have to move sideways BEFORE up and down

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Okay then its C?

OpenStudy (ashes.boom):

Yep because even if you take your finger and start on the point, you move your finger two spaces to the right, then move it up five spaces you should land on the next point :) good job!

OpenStudy (ashes.boom):

see how it works?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Thanks again! :) and yeah i do

OpenStudy (ashes.boom):

Your welcome! Do you have more questions?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yes i do! ill tag you
