determine the value or values of the variable for which x+5/2x-5 is defined.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

are they asking for domain?

OpenStudy (tkhunny):

1) Let's remember our Order of Operations. What you have written is \(x + \dfrac{5}{2}x - 5\). Some might read it \(x + \dfrac{5}{2x} - 5\). If you mean \(\dfrac{x+5}{2x-5}\), you must use parentheses. (x+5)/(2x-5). 2) Domain ==> What can go in? Can you see ANYTHING that makes this expression meaningless? Think about the denominator.

OpenStudy (tkhunny):

Since I wasn't clear, yes, the domain is the set of real numbers where the expression is defined.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

sorry i mean (x+5)/(2x-5)

OpenStudy (tkhunny):

Okay, now the Domain.

5/2
