Figure WXYZ is a rectangle with a semicircle added to its base. What is the perimeter of figure WXYZ? Use 3.14 to approximate pi. http://static.k12.com/calms_media/media/1571000_1571500/1571378/1/b7f2effd9180873ef5c67beabab3831ac0ad3470/MS_IMB-1401212-1110906.jpg

OpenStudy (tylerd):

ok so first add up the 3 sides

OpenStudy (tylerd):

16+7+7 right

OpenStudy (tylerd):

then we have half of a circle added onto the base

OpenStudy (tylerd):

the length around a circle is the circumference, this is only half of a circle, so we want to find half of the circumference.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

which will be semi circle formula right? :/

OpenStudy (tylerd):

the formula for circumference of a circle is pi times diameter i think

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yeah its like pi x 2 x diameter i think

OpenStudy (tylerd):

2 times pi times r

OpenStudy (tylerd):

2r = diameter

OpenStudy (anonymous):

16 x 7 x 3.14?

OpenStudy (tylerd):

well, the circumference would be 16 x 3.14

OpenStudy (tylerd):

but since this is only half a circle we want half of whatever that is

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I calculated that & got 50.24 & half of that is 25.12

OpenStudy (tylerd):

alright then we add that to 16+7+7

OpenStudy (anonymous):

= 30

OpenStudy (tylerd):

30+25.12

OpenStudy (anonymous):

55.12
