Which of these sentences from the short story “The Yellow Wallpaper” by Charlotte Perkins Gilman uses verbal irony? If only that top pattern could be gotten off from the under one! I mean to try it, little by little. I got up softly and went to feel and see if the paper did move, and when I came back John was awake. It is so hard to talk to John about my case, because he is so wise, and because he loves me so. But I am securely fastened now by my well-hidden rope—you don't get me out in the road there!
