The letters in the word "Paris" are written on separate slips of paper, and placed in a bag. Each letter will be put back after it's drawn. What is P(r, then vowel)?
what is the probability of drawing the r first?
1/5
right, now how many letters are left in the bag?
4
oh nevermind, each is put back
sorry so there are 5 again
That's alright. So the probability of drawing a vowel would be 2/5
well your twice as likely to draw a vowel over the r that would make the probability of drawing a r over a vowel 1/2 I think
@catnorris right, and are the drawing independent?

My answer choices are 1/5, 2/5, 3,5 and 2/25. It's independent.
then you can multiply the probabilities of the two events
Okay thank you! That's 2/25
yep :)
but that mean you have double slips of paper when you have 5/5 chances to draw any letter. but you have 3/5 chances to get p,r,s and 2/5 to get a vowel but 1/5 for each p,r,s so wouldn't that make the answer 1/5 just wondering
I'm sorry I don't think I understand. There is a 1/5 chance of drawing any individual letter, but why would that be the answer? We are drawing two letters
ok so it would be 2/5
