\(\sf \large \frac{1}{3}x=-2x + 7\) Collect like terms, and solve for x. After you solve for x, substitute its value in any of the equations to solve for y.

OpenStudy (chunkymonkay):

is it -2-1/3?

OpenStudy (michele_laino):

If I multiply both sides of the equation of @Data_LG2 by 3, I get: \[x = - 6x + 21\] is it ok?

OpenStudy (chunkymonkay):

yeah

OpenStudy (michele_laino):

ok!

OpenStudy (michele_laino):

Now, I add to both side 6x, and I get: \[x + 6x = - 6x + 21 + 6x\] pleaase simplify that equation, what do you get?

OpenStudy (chunkymonkay):

6x=21? im confused

OpenStudy (michele_laino):

7x = 21, since x+6x=7x

OpenStudy (chunkymonkay):

so x is 1?

OpenStudy (chunkymonkay):

because if x+6=7x than x must be 1

OpenStudy (michele_laino):

we have to divide both sides by 7: |dw:1428956949327:dw|
