OpenStudy (bananas1234):

Determine the prime factorization of 476.

OpenStudy (perl):

you can start by dividing by the smallest prime possible, divide by 2. Then divide the result by 2 if you can. keep doing this until you get a decimal.. then try the next prime number , 3 , then 5 ,etc

OpenStudy (perl):

alternatively you can make a tree using the same idea

OpenStudy (bananas1234):

ok....i think i get that....so would i divide 476 by 2 getting 238, then divide 238 by 2 getting 119?

OpenStudy (perl):

right

OpenStudy (perl):

and you can't divide 119 by 2, so then try to divide it by 3

OpenStudy (perl):

that doesnt work, and you try 5, then 7

OpenStudy (perl):

oh 7 works

OpenStudy (perl):

Primes (numbers that you can use to divide your number): 2,3,5,7,11,13,17, 23, 29, ...

OpenStudy (bananas1234):

Awesome so 476/7 and 68 divided by 7 and then you get a decimal

OpenStudy (bananas1234):

2 • 3^5 2^2 • 3^2 • 13 2^2 • 7 • 19 2^2• 7 • 17 These are my options so what would i do next now that i know 7 works?
