\(\huge\sf Direct~Answers~Tutorial\)

OpenStudy (igreen):

Direct Answers is a big problem on OpenStudy today. Now, just what is a direct answer? \(\large\sf What~is~a~Direct~Answer?\) \(\bigstar\) Giving an answer \(\bigstar\) Giving what you “think” is an answer \(\bigstar\) Giving an answer with an explanation – The asker can just take the answer and leave with it. \(\bigstar\) Anything else that doesn’t involve participation of the asker. Now, I believe the Code-of-Conduct does not state it well enough. But, I believe @amistre64 states it very well. \(\color{blue}{\text{Originally Posted by}}\) @amistre64 any explanation which does not involve the askers participation, but does all the work/thinking for them ... is nothing more than a direct answer. if doesnt matter if your explanation is 3 pages long and the most indepth textual treatise on the planet; without the askers participation all they do is say ok, take the final results, and move on to ask the same exact question all over again. \(\color{blue}{\text{End of Quote}}\) Okay, now let’s look at what’s wrong with Direct Answers. \(\large\sf What’s~wrong~with~Direct~Answer’s?\) \(\bigstar\) You are helping the asker cheat. \(\bigstar\) You are helping him to be ignorant \(\bigstar\) You are making life harder for him \(\bigstar\) You are not making him learn Let’s see what we can do about Direct Answers. \(\large\sf How~do~we~stop~them?\) \(\bigstar\) Report the user when he gives them – therefore letting the Moderators take care of the situation. \(\bigstar\) Kindly ask the user to stop, and that it’s against OpenStudy’s Code-of-Conduct. (especially if the user is new) \(\bigstar\) Do not give them yourself, and guide users to the solution. Remember, most of us have been there (including myself), but the most important thing is to stop it ASAP.

Not as long as I thought it would be..but..yep.

jagr2713 (jagr2713):

Great tutorial

OpenStudy (kidrah69):

Good job :)

OpenStudy (igreen):

I wrote it in a few minutes..lol.

OpenStudy (kidrah69):

Well congrats :P

thomaster (thomaster):

How about questions where explanation is impossible? Who was the 32nd president of the USA? I can't imagine any explanation other a straight answer, Franklin Roosevelt.

OpenStudy (igreen):

Lol, well, we can always give them a link to the list of Presidents. Or tell them to Google them..that's simple imformation.

OpenStudy (igreen):

*information

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Great Job @iGreen!

OpenStudy (yanasidlinskiy):

Oh, and we can also teach them how to spell correctly. *Ahem*

OpenStudy (igreen):

Err..wut?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I notice that some people get upset when people tell them not to give direct answers.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

80% people get mad 15% Are okay with it the rest of 5% are the people that wont listen and keeps doing it.

OpenStudy (igreen):

That's where you report..usually you don't want to tell them face-to-face..and let the Moderators take care of it.

OpenStudy (e.mccormick):

And there is all this too: http://openstudy.com/study#/updates/5511c987e4b08daf89890ff8

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Saving this for future refrence. <3 Whenever this situation happens when I'm around I usually subtly tell them when they do give direct answers. I would say "For the sake of the COC why is it whatever you told me?" Then they would give me a link and it would no longer be a direct answer.

OpenStudy (e.mccormick):

Chicken-Egg problem: They need to give you the chicken (link) first, not the egg (answer.)

TheSmartOne (thesmartone):

And there is all this too: http://openstudy.com/study#/updates/5522dcf5e4b07d2168db1146

OpenStudy (yanasidlinskiy):

@iGreen about "teach them how to spell correctly" You spelled some words incorrectly. So I decided to say ^^ Teach users how to spell correctly parallel with teaching math;)

eclipsedstar (eclipsedstar):

Nice tutorial! This helped clarify a question I had in mind.

OpenStudy (greencat):

This is a direct answers anti-tutorial. Instead of talking about how to give direct answers or how to get direct answers, you talk about why direct answers are bad and how to prevent them.

OpenStudy (greencat):

how to stop* them.

TheSmartOne (thesmartone):

I give direct answers in OpenStudy Feedback all day long tho ;-; ._.

OpenStudy (confluxepic):

^

OpenStudy (confluxepic):

I'm with @TheSmartOne I give direct answers in this section.

OpenStudy (greencat):

@iGreen Where can I find a tutorial that actually talks about direct answers, not against them?

OpenStudy (igreen):

@GreenCat I don't understand what you're asking.

OpenStudy (greencat):

Your title is not good.

OpenStudy (greencat):

It makes no sense when you think about it- if you think about it; or you could just not care to think about it.

OpenStudy (confluxepic):

lol @GreenCat

OpenStudy (confluxepic):

@iGreen The title of your post is really incorrect.

OpenStudy (confluxepic):

\(\color{blue}{\text{Originally Posted by}}\) @iGreen \(\huge\sf Direct~Answers~Tutorial\) \(\color{blue}{\text{End of Quote}}\) It seems as if you are giving a tutorial on how to give direct answers.

OpenStudy (igreen):

Lol

OpenStudy (igreen):

It depends on how you look at it.

OpenStudy (igreen):

What I meant by it, which you know, is "Tutorial about Direct Answers".

OpenStudy (confluxepic):

I know. lol

OpenStudy (e.mccormick):

Direct your answers to explain themselves.
