Suppose that many samples are taken from a population whose mean value is 80. As the size of each sample increases, the mean of the sample means would approach which of the following values? A. 76 B. 80 C. 84 D. 72
So the way I am reading this is we have a big group(population) the mean for something is 80 inside that group. now, if I break that group into a bunch of pieces, the bigger the groups are the mean of the big groups will approach______. @perl I want a second opinion on the phrasing of this question, do you mind giving your interpretation?
@FibonacciChick666 I had a similar question like this before but the mean value was 84 and the choices I could choose from were 84, 76, 72, and 80. The answer was 84, which is why I am confused is the answer the same as the mean value being asked or for that question there was no larger number to choose from?
well,have you done limits yet?
not yet
ok, so, if you were trying to figure out the mean of the population as a whole given themeans of the ssample groups, what would you do?
I will be back I have to do something
@FibonacciChick666 if your trying to find the mean of something don't you add them all up and divide by however many numbers there is?
yea, that's right. so if you had a lot of small groups, their averages could be all over the place and still average to 80 right?
yes
so with big groups, the averages are going to have to be closer to each other in order to get 80
so they will all have to be somewhere around 80
so the averages, will approach ___.
So the answer would be B. 80?
from both sides
yep
Just like the other question was 84
yea, Sorry this is such a bad question. :( test prep?
apex learning thanks for your help and time :)
np, and what is apex learning?
virtual classes
nvm, I googled it. I'm sorry, they stink. If you want a good explanation of this stuff you can always use khanacademy
ok will do thanks again :)
np have fun
