OpenStudy (aroub):

Please explain pressure potential.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

pressure potential Symbol Ψp. The component of water potential due to the hydrostatic pressure that is exerted on water in a cell. In turgid plant cells it usually has a positive value as the entry of water causes the protoplast to push against the cell wall (see turgor). In xylem cells there is a negative pressure potential, or tension, as a result of transpiration. Water at atmospheric pressure has a pressure potential of zero.

I'm talking about this kind of pressure

OpenStudy (aroub):

If you increase the pressure, the water potential increases in B. Why??

OpenStudy (shadeyghost):

since the membrane is only partially permeable, only some substances can go through, causing the pressure to increase

syed98 (syedmohammed98):

Pressure potential increases as water enters a cell. As water passes through the cell wall and cell membrane, it increases the total amount of water present inside the cell, which exerts an outward pressure that is opposed by the structural rigidity of the cell wall.

Thank you all :))
