Written by James Monore, the fisth president of the United States in 1823, the Monroe Doctrine was a statement of US policy opposing any European interference in the affairs of the newly independent Western Hemisphere. The Monroe Doctrine had four main points (1) The countries of the Western Hemisphere were no longer to be regarded "as subjects for future colonization by any European powers." (2) The political system of these countries was different from those of Europe. (3) United States would consider any attempt by European countries "to extend their system" to the Western Hemisphere as a threat to its "peace and safety." (4) The US had no intention of interfering in the affairs of European powers "in matters relating to themselves."
