Which statement is true? A. |–4| < 4 B. |–1| < 0 C. |–6| = –6 D. |–14| > 10

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i could use some help because i am not very good at math

OpenStudy (igreen):

What do you think? The absolute value signs make the numbers inside positive.

OpenStudy (igreen):

So if we had: |-9| it would be just 9 or if we had: |7| it would still be 7

OpenStudy (igreen):

So which one do you think is correct?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

c

OpenStudy (igreen):

No..C becomes: |-6| = -6 6 = -6 6 isn't equal to -6

OpenStudy (igreen):

Do you know what the > and < signs mean?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

look can you help me

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@HelpBlahBlahBlah

OpenStudy (igreen):

I'm trying to, but you have to participate, otherwise I won't be "helping" you.

OpenStudy (igreen):

Let me simplify all the options for you. A. 4 < 4 B. 1 < 0 C. 6 = -6 D. 14 > 10 Which one is true?

OpenStudy (igreen):

@mariah232323

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i don't know that's why i am on this site @butterflydreamer can you help me plz

OpenStudy (igreen):

> this sign means the number on the left is greater than the number on the right < this sign means the number on the left is less than the number on the right

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i said that earlier anad you did not answer back so i am going to ask someone else for help

OpenStudy (butterflydreamer):

hey mariah :) iGreen was just trying to help you. use what he said above: We want to know which one is true :) So if we know " <" means less than and ">" means greater than your options are basically this: A. 4 < 4 (Is 4 less than 4?4 equals to 4 right? It's the same number) B. 1<0 (is 0 greater than 1? I think 0 is bigger than 1 right?) C. 6= -6 (Are -6 and 6 equal? They're not the same number so this must be false) D. 14 >10 (Is 14 a bigger number than 10?) So what do you think the answer is, once you read the things i wrote in the brackets

OpenStudy (michele_laino):

hint: \[\Large \left| { - 14} \right| = 14\]

OpenStudy (anonymous):

it is |-14|=14

OpenStudy (anonymous):

thank you

OpenStudy (anonymous):

no problem

OpenStudy (igreen):

OpenStudy (igreen):

And that isn't even an option..

OpenStudy (anonymous):

she helped me more then you did all that i could understand of what you were saying was blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah

OpenStudy (michele_laino):

I wrote the same thing @mariah232323
