@freckles
OpenStudy (freckles):
we are looking at the equation 2x-8y=32 right?
OpenStudy (freckles):
ok we want to express that in y=mx+b form it looks like
anyways we basically need to solve for y
OpenStudy (freckles):
so isolate -8y by first subtracting 2x on both sides

OpenStudy (freckles):
can you do that first step ?
OpenStudy (anonymous):
the first 2 steps are shown
OpenStudy (freckles):
they sorta are yes
but they have a ? mark in there
OpenStudy (freckles):
so I was asking if you could subtract 2x on both sides and show me what you have after doing that
OpenStudy (anonymous):
im not realy sure cuz you cant subtract 2x when theres not even an x

im sorry i suck at math so bare with me /.\
OpenStudy (freckles):
2x-8y=32
subtract 2x on both sides
(2x-8y)-2x=32-2x
2x-8y-2x=-2x+32
Can you combine like terms on the left hand side?
OpenStudy (anonymous):
4x-8y=-2x+32????????
OpenStudy (freckles):
so you are saying 2-2 is 4?
OpenStudy (anonymous):
ok no its 0

OpenStudy (freckles):
2x-2x
(2-2)x
(0)x
0
so the equation should be
-8y=-2x+32
agreed?
OpenStudy (anonymous):
yes agreed
OpenStudy (freckles):
now you are almost done solving for y
OpenStudy (freckles):
last step divide both sides by -8
OpenStudy (anonymous):
y=14x−4???

OpenStudy (freckles):
now sure why you side -2/-8 is 14
but I agree that 32/-8 is -4
OpenStudy (freckles):
not sure*
OpenStudy (freckles):
-8/-2=4
so -2/-8=1/4
OpenStudy (freckles):
did you mean to write 1/4 instead of 14?
OpenStudy (anonymous):
oops ya thats what i ment XD

\[y=\frac{1}{4}x-4\]
OpenStudy (freckles):
that looks good now
OpenStudy (anonymous):
i dont know how to make it look like that so i just type it but thank you for your help:) if i need help on another ill tag you in it if thats okay with you?:)
