Is this right?

undeadknight26 (undeadknight26):

James has decided to start saving for a cruise over the summer. His money is currently in the local bank, modeled by the function s(x) = 102. He is able to do work around the neighborhood to earn extra money and that function would be a(x) = 8(x + 2), where x is measured in hours. Explain to James how he can create a function that combines the two, and describe any simplification that can be done.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

hmmmmmmm

undeadknight26 (undeadknight26):

My answer: James can combine the two by doing s(x) + a(x) so it would be: 102 + 8(x + 2) You can simplify this by distributing and adding like terms: 102 + 8x + 16 118 + 8x

undeadknight26 (undeadknight26):

lol @freckles Does the medal mean i did it right?

OpenStudy (freckles):

yes it means I thought it looked good

undeadknight26 (undeadknight26):

Awesome xD Thanks man :D

OpenStudy (freckles):

however

OpenStudy (freckles):

I would have a problem with it if the money in the bank wasn't a constant function

OpenStudy (freckles):

like the second function was based on per hour you know where the x was a time unit

OpenStudy (freckles):

but since your money is not gathering any interest then we are good I think most banks don't give you interest per hour :p

OpenStudy (freckles):

but yes the answer is fine

undeadknight26 (undeadknight26):

lol tbh in general i wouldn't do interest even if i had the choice xD

OpenStudy (freckles):

I mean you know you can put your money in a savings account and the bank will give you a little bit of a percentage of it every so often

OpenStudy (freckles):

like a little extra percentage

OpenStudy (freckles):

if you leave your money and a bank account it can get bigger depending on what kinda bank account it is

OpenStudy (freckles):

but I do not think it gets bigger per hour

undeadknight26 (undeadknight26):

I feel ya :D

OpenStudy (freckles):

but anyways it doesn't matter since the bank account money was a constant function

OpenStudy (freckles):

for your problem

undeadknight26 (undeadknight26):

Thanks again man :D
