Help! Does anyone know about this "PERFECT SQUARES METHOD"?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

OpenStudy (welshfella):

No - i tried looking it up but couldn't find anything I'll try again...

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Ok...

OpenStudy (anonymous):

squares. So are and . 1/25 and9/4

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Any number that is the square of a rational number. For example, 0, 1, 4, 9, 16, 25, etc. are all perfect

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Think its also known as the "Golden Method".

OpenStudy (welshfella):

yes I can understand how you can pick out perfect square factors with something like sqrt28 = sqrt (4*7) = sqrt4 * sqrt7 = 2 sqrt7 4 being the perfect square

OpenStudy (welshfella):

but how do you apply it to a prime number like 79?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

idk???

OpenStudy (welshfella):

Oh i just noticed it says use the ratio of perfect squares method

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ok what next ?

OpenStudy (welshfella):

I looked it up and its applicable to certain numbers but not to 79 which is a prime number

OpenStudy (anonymous):

what the heck do u put????

OpenStudy (welshfella):

sorry idk

OpenStudy (anonymous):

can u help me with another question?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

different topic

OpenStudy (anonymous):

OpenStudy (anonymous):

-4?

OpenStudy (welshfella):

yes

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Last one!!!

OpenStudy (welshfella):

x^3 = 27 x = ?

OpenStudy (welshfella):

a good approximation of sqrt79 would be sqrt80 sqrt80 = sqrt(4 * 4*5) = 4 sqrt5

OpenStudy (welshfella):

4 sqrt5 = 8.94 to nearest hundredth

OpenStudy (welshfella):

the actual squre root on my calculator is 8.89

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ok...

OpenStudy (anonymous):

What is the answer?

OpenStudy (welshfella):

to what ?

OpenStudy (welshfella):

sqrt79 ? - thats 8.89

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Simp=8.9?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

wait thats the final answer?

OpenStudy (welshfella):

yes

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I don't think so...really 8.9?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Your 100% sure?

OpenStudy (welshfella):

no the real square root is 8.89 ( to nearest 1 hundredth)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

You can only enter 2 numbers and a decimal

OpenStudy (welshfella):

in an answer box you mean?

OpenStudy (welshfella):

the question asks for the nearest hundredth - thats 2 numbers after the dec.mal

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Look at the attachment.

OpenStudy (welshfella):

ok i have
