How do you factor 3a^2 + a - 2?

OpenStudy (marcon):

Answer is (a +1)(3a - 2)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Can you explain how you got that please

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Alright, thanks

OpenStudy (marcon):

Sure thing

Nnesha (nnesha):

need help ?? :-)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

nah, i solved it

OpenStudy (anonymous):

on the other hand

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i need help with a factor

Nnesha (nnesha):

okay that's good

OpenStudy (anonymous):

\[x^2 + 6x + 5\]

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i got a weird answer

Nnesha (nnesha):

what's u got ?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I got (x+7)(x+3)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

its way off

Nnesha (nnesha):

okay leading coefficient of quadratic equation is one to check your answer multiply both number (x +7)(x+3) so multiply 7 times 3 you should get last term and if you multiply those two number you should get middle term

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yeah its the middle term

Nnesha (nnesha):

|dw:1429499952457:dw| to factor this one you should get two number if you multiply them you should get last term and if you add or subtract them you should get middle term which is 6
