Will give medal! Two sets of quadratic expressions are shown below in various forms: Line 1: x2 − x − 6 (x + 2)(x − 3) (x + 0.5)2 − 6.25 Line 2: x2 − x − 2 (x + 1)(x − 2) (x − 0.5)2 − 2.25 Which line contains three equivalent expressions? Line 1 only Line 2 only Both Line 1 and Line 2 Neither Line 1 nor Line 2

OpenStudy (anonymous):

1'm pretty sure its only line 1 but 1'm not sure.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i think neither of them

OpenStudy (anonymous):

How do you know?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

1've got to go, but if you can type out your reasoning 1'll be back tomorrow. Thanks

OpenStudy (anonymous):

because if you do x-3 and x+2 they are not gonna come out the same anser. making line 1 not have three equivalent expressions. if you do x+1 and x-2 they do not equal the same making line 2 not have three equivalent expressions

OpenStudy (anonymous):

that is just one reason

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Actually 1 think line 1 is equal.

@tkhunny

OpenStudy (tkhunny):

Why don't you PROVE it, rather than guessing? Can you factor the left and reproduce the middle? Can you complete the square on the left and reproduce the right? Can you multiple and simplify from the middle or right and reproduce the left?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

when you factor the first one you got -3 and 2.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

1'm unsure as to how to factor the third one though.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

For anyone who comes looking for help with this later, it is NOT line one only.
