Thinking about the animals that live in the intertidal zone, what are two characteristics of these animals that help them survive in this environment?

OpenStudy (zairahernandez):

Animals that live in the intertidal zone have to deal with exposure to air, as well as strong currents. Many organisms such as sea stars or sea urchins have developed what are called tube feet. Tube feet help to secure them to their rock. So some form of anchoring themselves. To deal with sun exposure, snails such as periwinkles and oyster drills have what is called an operculum. Te operculum forms a watertight seal around the shell, protecting them from the sun. So here, it would be moisture control.

Shorter version lol A lot of the animals are able to close up into their shells as a shelter in the harsh conditions. There are also animals that can attach themselves in place so they're not washed away.

Okay yea i just read that on Yahoo =) The one answer i have come up with is Burrowing, but i need one more =)

OpenStudy (zairahernandez):

okay lol sowwy.

OpenStudy (zairahernandez):

Depending on the time of day, different areas of the intertidal zone may be wet or dry. Organisms in this habitat must be able to adapt if they are left “high and dry” when the tide goes out. Sea snails have a “trap door” called an operculum that they can close when they are out of water to keep moisture in.Waves hit the intertidal zone with force, and marine animals must be able to protect themselves.Kelp have a root-like structure called a “holdfast” that attaches to rocks, keeping it in place.

lol it's okay thx for all the help you can give me =)

OpenStudy (zairahernandez):

im really trying to help lol

OpenStudy (anonymous):

=) thx so much, so this is what i have so far : Thinking about the animals that live in the intertidal zone, what are two characteristics of these animals that help them survive in this environment? Two characteristics that help them survive include things such as Burrowing, like the coquinas and sand fleas. Also depending on the time of day, different areas of the inter-tidal zone may be wet or dry. Organisms in this habitat must be able to adapt if they are left “high and dry” when the tide goes out. Some creatures in this zone have apparatuses such as the Sea snails, which have a “trap door” called an operculum that they can close when they are out of water to keep moisture in
