If the label says "made with active cultures," are we always getting the benefits of active bacterial cultures? A) Yes, since the yogurt had to be made with live, active cultures. B) If the yogurt has been refrigerated the live cultures are still present. Eliminate C) If the yogurt has not been heat-treated the live cultures are still present. D) No; yogurt sold in stores is free from living bacteria as it may make you sick.
We can eliminate A and D. Just because yogurt was made with active cultures doesn't mean they will be present under all conditions. Also, not all yogurt has live cultures. D is wrong because many yogurts have live cultures, as probiotics are healthy for the digestive system. This leaves B and C. Live cultures are heat sensitive. If heated, it will kill the good bacteria. Though, most processes don't heat treat the yogurt. For C, yogurt must be refridgerated to keep the live cultures alive. So which do you think it is? I'm honestly leaning more towards C, it seems the most common and logical answer.
