I will give a medal to whoever helps me!!!!!!!!!! A football player does a shuttle run in which he sprints 20 m south, then 15 m north, then 10 m south, and then 5 m north. If his total time is 20 s, what are his displacement and average velocity?

HELP PLEASE! SOMEBODY!

OpenStudy (ineedhelpfast12):

@LucasGaberkorn I know that much, but the answer in our book said 0.75. I got the same thing, and now I have to explain it to my teacher, so he can understand what the book did to get that answer.

OpenStudy (cp9454):

aver. velocity= total displacement/total time taken

OpenStudy (cp9454):

0.25m/s

OpenStudy (ineedhelpfast12):

but the displacement is 10, with an average velocity of 0.75. why?

OpenStudy (cp9454):

oh sorry i didn't read the question properly

OpenStudy (cp9454):

see the displacement will be 10 m south as the person goes (20+10)m south and (15+5)m north, and we know displacement is line joining initial and final position so u have to subtract 30-20 and you will get 10
