Intro Immigration Paper Immigration is a controversial topic. The word immigration is defined as an action of a person who has citizenship in one country but enters a different country to set up a permanent resident. Many people who believe that if they can make it in the “Nation of Immigrants,” then they can be successful and live the American dream. Eslam Mostafa, is one of the many who believes that America serves more opportunities that will better one’s life. One of the important issues that most Americans should be aware of is the background history of the emigrants. Immigration is an asset to the United States because immigrants work hard and provide services to others; immigrants pay taxes, and immigrants provide cultural diversity.

There are thousands of immigrants, legal and illegal, from around the world, come to the United States. Many people believe that the United States of America is the best place to immigrate to. There is more freedom, protection, and benefits, which are important issues with immigrants. These immigrants have many different motivations; some enter the U.S. hoping to get a chance at a chance at a better life; others are refugees, escaping persecution and civil wars in their home country. Things that stood out to me in the reading was many people who choose to migrate for better life opportunities. In the other hand, many people are willing to do anything for building a better family. Things that was recurrent among the themes was that many people who had trouble migrating and some who got deported back to their country. There are many immigrants who experienced the hate from most of the Americans. Therefore, immigrants feel that they are a hindrance to the United States. Things that was related to was how Cleofilas from women hollering was hoping to be living Tancovala dream. Cleofilas gave up her own dreams and left everything behind in order to build a strong family. Also I for Young Yu, where her grandparents have gone through the worst to get the best. Things that I would relate to is how people are willing to do anything when it comes to families. An immigrant may have pay fewer jobs that require so much of hard working. Also, there are not enough jobs available do to their culture, religion, race, and their language.

The one thing that interested me most about immigrants coming to the United States is the reasons that convinced them to leave the places where they grew up to move to a completely unknown land. The first person that I interviewed was a thirty years old immigrant from Cairo, Egypt named Mostafa. Mostafa came from a middle class family in Egypt, he’s very well known as the youngest smartass lawyer. It came to the moment where his whole life have changed. Once he was assigned to a trial of two teenage boys raped five-year girl named Zena. After they have done their crime they put the child on fire and throw her from tower building. At this period, he was planning on getting married very soon. Mostafa claimed that when he took the case he hated his country and it justice. He said there were a lot of injustice richest were a higher power than the poor. Living in Egypt became very expensive, they are no respect for higher educational, not enough jobs are available for graduate and not enough transportation.

After two month of his marriage to Ameera, her parents got the immigration visa to the U.S. Ameera’s age was above the 18 it was very hard for her to leave with her parents. Mostafa have done every impossible thing to let her go with her family. He stated that it was very hard to him to let her go, but at the same time his fear was stronger. He felt that he won’t gave her enough safety she needed or to their new family. He knew that America is all about freedom, freedom religious, and freedom of speech. America is the mother of the world, meaning they are no country that is higher hopes and dreams than America. I have my family here. I felt moving to America I found that my children will have higher education than Egypt. I will be living a normal safe life.

Therefore, Mostafa came to U.S, his first job was dishwasher. He was taking seven-half dollar per hour. It wasn’t yet enough to rent house, but “ I am doing all of his for my family.” He then worked at American restaurant cleaning with nine dollar per hour. He said I would woke up from 6.am until 3.am the next day. He said I found out the people at the American restaurant were cutting hours from my job. “I couldn’t do anything about it” he said. Mostafa’s language was very bad he didn’t have his green card yet and the lawyer would cost a lot of money. He called that once they know you don’t speak English they will use you as soccer ball. He also claimed that if he was ever born or grew up in the U.S he would have been a famous lawyer or millionaire guy. In other hand, my older brother Ahmed who lives in Egypt is always asking me for a lot of money “yeah more than the money I make.” He’s trouble maker even though he has two son and wife. I have to help him or he will end up in jail.

During the last hundred years the population of the Arab world was doubled more than ten times. There are 82.1 million people are living in Egypt in 2013. This was mainly due to the improvement of health care, education, employment and immigration to the big cities, and sometimes other countries. This change in the population caused a lot of as the number of people is much more than the resources available for them. Other than that Arab people have very bad history with immigration after 11 september 2001. Most of the Arab people have experienced the hate from most of the Americans. Many people who had the opportunities to come to America, as my father but he choose to not go. From what we have heard about how Arab being mistreated in America. Other than that it was the Arab spring in Egypt. The revelation was yet starting, and the government building was shut of. Even airports was closed.

At the end, I have learned a lot about immigration. It is not just about the Arab it is a problem all around the world. Emigrants faces obstacles each day but at the end of the day they thank God for better life. America has given the opportunity for everyone, but not everyone is the same. Many who heard lots of things about America but when they came they saw whole different thing. It all depends on who see it. Yet many who their life complete changed. The opportunity for a better life made it worth all of the risks and sacrifices. “America was primarily founded on immigrants." However, immigration must be controlled legally, and immigrants should be treated equally despite what country they come from. In one hand, immigrants wouldn't be able to have a better job due to their language. I wish if their was a law that would allow emigrant to work with whatever degree they have earned in their home country. Or at least pass a test, rather than studying all over. “Without immigrants, our country wouldn’t function. So let’s give it a go.” (Mehdi Hasan)
