Why does Jesus tell the parable of the Good Samaritan?
Where is this parable found again?
The easiest way to find out why he gave the parables is to check what he was talking about right before he did.
Do you know the story of the good Samaritan? ..
i read it but lost my book :( i don't remember
I think he tells it because it's sort of an example of how we should act. Basically, rather then walking by someone in need, you should stop and help them. Just about everything he says in the bible acts sort of like a mirror. When we look in the mirror we look for flaws and imperfections. When he says not to lie, steal, cheat, etc, he's handing us a mirror so we can look for where we lie, steal, cheat, and try to fix those imperfections. There was a helpless man who was stripped and beaten, and the first few people to see him just walked on by. However one man stopped, (the good Samaritan) and clothes and helped him. Sorry if this doesn't help but I'm basing if purely off of what I know. :3. .
Someone asked Jesus what he should do to inherit eternal life. He replied with the first three of the law and to "Love thy neighbor as thyself"
Then he asked a more interesting question to Jesus, trying to stump him. "Who's my neighbor?"
to protect a person from Samaria?
The Samaritans were pretty much the enemys of the jews, just as segregated as african americans were from the whites.
This certain man, a jew got beat up on his way to Jericho, and two jews passed him, a priest, a levite and then a Samaritan came.
The Samaritan was the only one who had compassion and stopped. He got off his mule, bandaged the bleeding, hurting jew and put him on his donkey.
then he went to a motel (Sort of also a hospital in this case), payed the man to take care of the Jew and said "I'll be back to pay again if needed."
Then look at verse 36, "Which now of these three, do you think, was a neighbor unto him that was beaten and robbed by the thieves?" And the Lawyer replied, "The one that had mercy on him." Then Jesus said, "Go and Do that yourself."
Pretty much, Jesus is saying everyone is our neighbor, to treat others as you would treat yourself, and even if they are your enemies, to have compassion.
I really hope this helps you understand, and if you don't make sure you read through the passage again! https://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=Luke%2010:25-37
