All species have a certain amount of genetic diversity within their populations. How is genetic diversity important to the concept of natural selection?
If there is no genetic diversity, then there is no natural selection and species are unable to evolve. In natural selection, certain favorable traits survive while others die out. If there is no genetic diversity and all species have exactly the same traits, then natural selection is unable to occur because there would be no certain favorable or unfavorable traits, and humans would be stuck looking and having structures similar to primates.
Let me know if that makes sense, it's really hard to explain!
So in short, species need to have diversity so that natural selection can pick which traits are better for survival and will stick with the species as it evolves.
yea u right thanks
