Suggestion: When an OS user blocks someone, the person they blocked should see that person as "offline".
No.
hmmm...I don't think their is a need for that at all.
How much will it benefit OS? @vera_ewing
zero zilch none @confluxepic
@shifuyanli Don't assume.
I think it is helpful because usually people get blocked for spam and harassment, so if that spammer/harasser can see that their target is offline, they are more likely not to harrass/spam that person.
If you block the user, that user will no longer bother you with direct messages + testimonials, but you can still see them in chats, and in your posts.
It will reduce spam and harassment a lot.
Yes, but they can still see that you're online, so they're more likely to see if you posted. And in that post, they will probably spam or harass you.
What will change if you see them offline but still see the in posts OR chats??
them*
Also, blocked users shouldn't be able to see your posts.
That would cause a lot of confusion.
This will prevent spam and harassment. Who wouldn't want to prevent spam and harassment?
2 people helping 1 user. But they both don't know the other is helping at the same time.
What's wrong with a bit of extra help? That does no harm.
Missed the point.
\(\color{blue}{\text{Originally Posted by}}\) @vera_ewing Also, blocked users shouldn't be able to see your posts. \(\color{blue}{\text{End of Quote}}\) What if two people who blocked each other are trying to help the same person?
What if?
What if they are showing him two different ways? More confusion, has to reply to two users at the same time. Asker will be confused. And then the people helping him see him replying to the other person's question and will be confused what is even going on and what he is saying, etc.
One would not be able to help.
I didn't say replies to posts. I said just questions. Not replies to OTHER questions.
Posts = Questions ...
Ok. It was just a bit unclear when you said post. :)
Oh I meant questions. You were talking about REPLIES.
\(\color{blue}{\text{Originally Posted by}}\) @vera_ewing This will prevent spam and harassment. Who wouldn't want to prevent spam and harassment? \(\color{blue}{\text{End of Quote}}\) If the spam, and harrass, I'm pretty sure they spend a lot of time in their suspensions.
I'm sure others feel the same way. It's a great idea!
Remember, OpenStudy is an open community. They can still view your questions without being logged in.
True, but they can't comment.
They can make new accounts to bypass the block.
They can still find out you are online by viewing OS as a guest...
They would get suspended though.
Only if they were evading a suspension.
Or breaking the CoC.

@vera_ewing It all depends on the purpose of that second account.
If the purpose of the second account is to spam and harass then it would get suspended, right?
Yes.
But their first account would be suspended also.
Yeah, exactly. So this would prevent spam and harassment!
No it wouldn't. Give them a suspension and it will prevent spam and harassment.
And if they are in a suspension, they wouldn't know if you were online without viewing OS as a guest... or by evading the suspension.
Ok, what exactly is wrong with blocked users not being able to view questions by someone that blocked them?
Isn't that what blocking is for? "Blocking" them?

They can still view the question as a guest. And what if they searched and found the same question that they needed help on, then they wouldn't be able to view it and learn how to do it.
Okay, true.
