Which of the sentences below is written correctly? The first of six races were the shortest race of the entire event. The winners of the meet was given gold medals and special certificates. The volunteers for the track event wear shirts from the host school. The coaches of each team cheers on all of the runners in each race.
What do you think?
a or d
No, it's C
? how ?
Well you can eliminate A because "the first" refers to the one event.
so would it be c kyanthedoodle
The volunteers for the track event wear shirts from the host school. You can replace "the volunteers" with "they". So now it would be: They wear shirts from the host school. See? It's correct. :) C is right!
oh ok i see thanks
You're welcome :)
Well it's not D because "the coaches" is more than one coach. The plural verb in this case is cheer, not cheers. It's not B because the plural verb for winners is were.
Yes, but he wanted to know why it IS C, not why it ISN'T the other choices :)
It's the same thing. I'm saying why the others are wrong and why C isn't.
But it's ok, I've already explained :)
