OpenStudy (mathmate):

I may not have gone through all the questions asked in this section, so please forgive if I am duplicating someone else's question, in which case please supply me with a link. My question is that the notifications used to be kept until each one has been read. Now if I read one of 5 notifications, all 5 will disappear, and I have to go through the "View all notifications" option to see the other four, which is time consuming under the best conditions. My question is whether this is the intended behaviour, or would it be eventually restored as before?

jagr2713 (jagr2713):

Yep its a glitch that is going on right now. It will be fixed soon with all the other glitches. For now we can just go to the view all notifications :D

jagr2713 (jagr2713):

you get it @mathmate

TheSmartOne (thesmartone):

Hello there @mathmate This is a very recent glitch. When you click the notification tab, it will erase all of your notifications. The developers are aware of this issue and are trying to fix it as soon as possible. One way to get around this, as you mentioned, is to go to View All Notifications page. And check the notifications from there. Another way around this new issue is to copy paste all your notifications and to paste it into a word document or a note pad. And then you can Ctrl+Click the links (because they are now hyperlinks) to open them in to your browser. You can also individually, click the notification and then drag it over to the word document so you only get the link. I have also noticed that it takes a rather long time to load OpenStudy so it would be best if you copy the last number parts and swap those numbers with the post you are on and OpenStudy will load that page faster than if you were to open it in a new tab.

OpenStudy (vera_ewing):

Yep, this is happening to me too.

TheSmartOne (thesmartone):

For example, if you are viewing this post, and this page is fully loaded: http://openstudy.com/study#/updates/553d7f8be4b0b76380654f1e And you want to this post: http://openstudy.com/study - /updates/543de42fe4b0b3c6e146b5e8 Just Copy the ending of the second link, which is -- 543de42fe4b0b3c6e146b5e8 And then replace that with the current link you are in which is -- 553d7f8be4b0b76380654f1e And the page will load a whole lot faster.

OpenStudy (mathmate):

@jagr2713 Thank you for the information. As long as development is working on it, I will be patient like everyone else. @TheSmartOne Thank you for the various suggestion! I will try the copy to note pad or Word. Hopefully this method will be faster than going through "View all notifications". Your screen name is so appropriate! :)

TheSmartOne (thesmartone):

And you want to view this post: http://openstudy.com/study#/updates/543de42fe4b0b3c6e146b5e8 ***

OpenStudy (mathmate):

@thesmartone I suppose you meant to ask me to close the question?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

It is a glitch :( unfortunately that is what openstudy is famous for.

jagr2713 (jagr2713):

..... @shifuyanli you didnt have to say that... why are you doing this,,

TheSmartOne (thesmartone):

No, I was giving an example for when I said when you drag each notifications to the word document that you should only change the last part of the link so that the page would load faster compared to opening the notifcation in a new tab.

OpenStudy (confluxepic):

That glitch hasn't happened to me for a month. @mathmate

OpenStudy (mathmate):

@confluxepic Ah! Perhaps it is browser dependent? I use Chrome, and you?

OpenStudy (confluxepic):

Chrome.

TheSmartOne (thesmartone):

Just tested it out. I use Chrome. Still happens for me. @confluxepic must have gotten used to the glitch? o.O

OpenStudy (mathmate):

@confluxepic :( ?? don't know what to say!

OpenStudy (confluxepic):

How did the notifications used to work before?

OpenStudy (mathmate):

@confluxepic Perhaps it's because you're up to date with notifications all the time. The glitch appears only when you pile them up.

TheSmartOne (thesmartone):

Before when you clicked it, the notifcations used to remain there although the number count would disappear. The notifications that you read would disappear after you had refreshed the page. But now it disappears when you close it which did not happen before.

OpenStudy (mathmate):

@TheSmartOne I copied the notifications to a Word file, but the link does not follow. It just copied the colour (blue) that appears to be a link, but it does not contain the link. It could be a setting of Word that I have. I may try with another editor.

TheSmartOne (thesmartone):

Interesting. To open the link, you have to pree Ctrl and then click the blue part of the link to open it.

TheSmartOne (thesmartone):

press*

TheSmartOne (thesmartone):

It is currently working for me. I have almost 25 pages of notifications to check and it still works for me. When I hover my mouse over one of the blue links, this is what pops up. [See attachment]

eclipsedstar (eclipsedstar):

For me it's just as simple as opening a new tab for the notifs...lol

TheSmartOne (thesmartone):

OpenStudy does take longer to load a new page than going to another post.

eclipsedstar (eclipsedstar):

No, it actually improved drastically for me. The pages don't lag either any more.

eclipsedstar (eclipsedstar):

Just the template that annoys me...but that's about it. Yahtzee party and overlapping os logo with the subject icon.

OpenStudy (mathmate):

@TheSmartOne Silly me. I didn't know that I need to press control to follow the link (in Word)! It works, prefectly! Thanks you soooo much!

TheSmartOne (thesmartone):

Anytime @mathmate . I am glad that I was able to help :)

OpenStudy (mathmate):

Yep, and you also said that if I don't click on the link, it doesn't go away. So together with the copy of the link, I should survive for a while! :)

TheSmartOne (thesmartone):

I made a video to show how to get around it: http://youtu.be/x_5CaPEZHxA?hd=1 And right when I start recording, opening in a new tab loads faster. But right now, just switching out the last parts for me it working faster. I guess it all depends on the timing. Hmmm.
