I need help with this question. I think it is either A and B or A and C. Given the scientific names, which two organisms are in the same genus? A) Quercus rubra B) Acer rubra C) Quercus nigra D) Betula pendula
well, what defines a genus?
I don't really know, but doesn't the genus come first in the scientific name? So wouldn't it be A and C?
well, I'm gonna give you a little lasson in ancient latin here, if you want. (If not, sucks to be you =) ) let's take the examples you provided. 'quercus nigra' is composed of the noun quercus (oak) and the adjective nigra (black). in latin names, this order is virtually always preserved. you see, all oaks belong to the same genus. the black cat and the black oak, however, are two very different things. understood?
Yes. The question asks for the organisms that have the same genus so it would be A and C. Right?
correct. :)
Thank you so much for the help.
