Pauline was grocery shopping with her new husband Paul. They had only been in the store a few minutes when Paul put three cans of vegetable soup into the cart. When Pauline returned with three bags of fresh vegetables, she saw the cans. “Why are these cans in our cart?” she asked Paul. “Did you put them there?” Paul was taken aback. Vegetable soup was one of his favorite meals. As a bachelor, he ate it several times a month. “It’s vegetable soup,” he said. “I’ve been eating it my whole life. I love vegetable soup.” Pauline picked up one of the cans and spun it so she could read the ingredients on the label. She looked at her new husband. “Have you ever read the label on a can of vegetable soup?” she asked. Paul looked sheepish as he responded that he hadn’t. “But what could be bad about vegetable soup?” he said defensively. “Vegetables are good for you.” “Fresh vegetables are good for you,” Pauline said. “They cooked these vegetables for so long they cooked all the nutrients out. Not to mention the salt content, there’s enough salt in this can to give high blood pressure to a horse." “But I love it,” Paul whined. Pauline put her arm around Paul and said, “Honey, I love you too much to let you put unhealthy food in your body. Let me put it to you straight, as long as I’m cooking, we don’t eat from cans. Now that I know how much you love vegetable soup, I will make it for you and there will always be some in the refrigerator. You’ll like it much better than this canned stuff. All you’re really tasting is the salt.” Pauline hugged Paul and put the cans back on the shelf. “I want you to live a long and healthy life,” she said and kissed him on the cheek.
Why is the second paragraph important to the story? It explains why Paul eats so many canned goods. It explains Paul's feelings about vegetable soup. It tells readers why Paul is too lazy to make soup. It tells readers that Paul is really angry at his wife.

One day, father Badger stayed at home to make new arrows. His wife was busy slicing and drying the meat left over from the hunt of the day before, while the little ones played at hide-and-go-seek about the lodge. All at once, a big, clumsy shape darkened the low doorway. The children hid their faces in fear, but father Badger got up and welcomed the stranger kindly. He was a large black Bear. His shaggy skin hung loosely, and his little red eyes turned hungrily on the strips of good meat hung up to dry. "Ho! Be seated, friend!" said the old Badger. His wife at once broiled a thick slice of savory venison over the coals and offered it to their guest in a wooden basin. The Bear ate like a starving man, and soon after he had eaten he shuffled away. Next day the Bear came again, and on the day after, and for many days. At each visit he was invited to eat, according to the custom, and feasted well by the Badger, skillful hunter and generous host. After many days the Bear came one morning looking fat and sleek, and he had brought with him his whole family. Growling savagely, he rudely turned the Badger family out of their comfortable lodge. Crying bitterly, the homeless Badgers went off into the woods to seek another place of shelter. That night they slept cold under a great rock, and the children went supperless to bed, for the Badger could not hunt without his arrows. All the next day and for several days after he wandered through the forest looking for game, but found none. One night, the children were so hungry and cried so hard, that the poor old father at last said, "Well, then, I must beg for you!" So he crept back to his old home, where the Bear family now lived and grew fat. Standing in the doorway, he begged quite humbly for a small piece of meat. However, the Bear got up and turned him angrily out-of-doors, while the ill-natured little Bears chuckled and laughed to see how thin and hungry he looked! All laughed but one, and that one was the smallest and ugliest of the cubs, who had always been teased and abused by the others. He was sorry for the poor Badger, and when no one was looking he slyly stole a piece of his mother's meat and threw it into their hut, and then ran home again. This happened several times, and now the family of Badgers were only kept from starving by the gifts of the kind-hearted little Bear. At last came the Avenger. He is very tall, strong and beautiful, and is feared by all wrong-doers. The Bear saw him coming and began to tremble. He at once called to the Badger and invited him to come and eat. But the Avenger came first! Then the Bear called upon his wife and children to follow him, and took to his heels. He ran as fast as he could. He never came back any more, and the Badger family returned and joyfully possessed their old home. 2. What event causes the Badger family to seek shelter in the woods? The Badger's wife broils some venison and gives it to the Bear. The Bear and his family force the Badgers out of their home. The Avenger comes to frighten the Bear and his family away. The Badger decides that he must beg for his hungry children.

Aisha had lingered in front of the mirror for far too long. Her eyes were fixed on a yellow sticker at the top right corner of the mirror. In soft black letters, it read, "Best Friends Forever." Behind her, four girls were fighting to catch a glimpse of themselves. They were pushing each other away from the narrow space in front of the dressing table. Giggling out of innocent happiness, Simmie, Raima, Dimple, and Tina were trying their best to prevent any wardrobe mishaps. In the tiny room overflowing with piles of mismatched junk, it was a miracle the girls could fit in there at all. Aisha, lost in her thoughts, remained oblivious to their squabbling. "Aishaaaaaaa! Where are the car keys?" asked Simmie, the tallest of the girls. She was dressed in a plain skirt suit. Simmie wanted to be a lawyer one day and always looked like it. "I do not want to go looking like that," Aisha replied absent-mindedly. She was now staring at the ceiling. "Hello, dreamer! Keys?" Raima gave up on fixing an unruly curl and waved a hand in front of Aisha's face. Raima was the journalist. She had picked a light khaki dress to reflect her mild temperament. "It's time to go. What are you thinking of?" "Come on. Look at me!" Aisha said, dropping despairingly into a chair. "Why do I look like a scarecrow draped in a big saffron ribbon?" Aisha was often unfairly hard on herself. Finding fault with herself was a way of avoiding the difficulty of the situation. "Hush. You look gorgeous!" Dimple shouted back without a glance at Aisha. She began searching for the car keys, overturning everything that was visible and within her reach. Dimple always wanted to make things happen. Someday, she was going to be a scientist. Aisha reached for a tissue on the dressing table and spoke as if talking in a dream, "What is the point of a farewell party anyway?" Tina, who was standing near the window, looked searchingly into Aisha's eyes. "What's really on your mind?" she asked. Tina's floral dress was floating in the air. Like Aisha, she did not know what she wanted to do in life. "I do not want to go." Aisha finally looked at the concerned faces of her friends. Her sighs and soft hiccups interrupted her words. "I don't want a farewell from you guys. We are all going to go our separate ways. You know, after today,—" "We will not be the same." As always, Simmie completed Aisha's thoughts. "But you know, we'll always be best friends forever." 3. What happens when Tina asks Aisha for an answer? Aisha tells her friends that she does not like dressing up for parties. Aisha reveals that she is feeling sad about parting from her friends. Aisha says she thinks farewell parties are very long and boring events. Aisha asks her friends to help her clean the room instead of going out.
what do you think the answer is?
It's B
