what is the slope of the line represented by the equation x=-9?

OpenStudy (radar):

|dw:1430228022507:dw| A vertical line where x = -9 or delta x = 0 (No change in x)

OpenStudy (radar):

What is the definition of slope?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I don't know.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

a surface of which one end or side is at a higher level than another; a rising or falling surface. @radar

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@bohotness can you help?

OpenStudy (bohotness):

i will trash

OpenStudy (bohotness):

try

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yea i figured thats what u meant

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Does anyone know this?!?! hahaha

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Alright since the equation of a slope is (y2-y1)/(x2-x1) and x=-9 is a vertical line, you will end up with a 0 in the denominator. This will make the slope undefined

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Okay. how in the world did u learn this crap! its so hard!

OpenStudy (anonymous):

It's actually quite simple. "x=" equations are usually undefined and "y=" equations are usually 0

OpenStudy (radar):

Yes, division by 0 is undefined. If x doesn't change the the change in x is 0, so slope being the change in y divided by the change in x would also be undefined as change in x is 0

OpenStudy (radar):

I had thought I had made that clear. Sorry about that.
