Hello! I need help on one geometry question regarding proofs. Karen is using an indirect method to prove that segment DE is not parallel to segment BC in the triangle ABC shown (will post picture) She starts with the assumption that segment DE is parallel to segment BC. Which inequality will she use to contradict the assumption? 6:7 ≠ 2:7 6:8 ≠ 7:10 6:2 ≠ 7:10 6:2 ≠ 3:2 Thank you so much!

@doglover789 Can you help?

OpenStudy (gorv):

if the ratio of two side is equal in both triangle than they will be similar hence parallel

OpenStudy (gorv):

\[\frac{ AD }{ AB }=\frac{ AE }{ AC }\] if this is true than they are parallel else not

OpenStudy (gorv):

where AD AB AE and AC are the length of the triangle

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I guess that makes sense, but not really. Im really bad at math so none of this really makes any sense to me.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I mean I think the answer is D: 6:2 ≠ 3:2 but im not sure

OpenStudy (gorv):

AD=???

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@gorv could you tell me if my answer is correct? If not could you please explain it again so I can find the answer

OpenStudy (anonymous):

oh sorry I didn't see your reply

OpenStudy (gorv):

its wrong

OpenStudy (gorv):

what is the length of AD??

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Oh waittttt is it 6:8 ≠ 7:10? Because then its the AD=6 / AB=8 : AE=7 / AC= 10

OpenStudy (gorv):

yes my dear you are right :)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Thank you so much!!! I really do appreciate this!!! :)

OpenStudy (gorv):

u r welcome :)
