Not sure how to solve this problem. Can someone help. I'll medal. A vase contains 12 tulips and 20 roses. What is the ratio of roses to the total number of flowers in the vase? A. 3 to 8 B. 3 to 5 C. 5 to 8 D. 5 to 3

OpenStudy (butterflydreamer):

ooops i read the question wrong LOL

OpenStudy (anonymous):

lol thats ok

OpenStudy (anonymous):

20 to 32 then simplify. You got 32 because if u add 20 and 12 you get 32 which is the total number of flowers

OpenStudy (anonymous):

So then You simplify, an easy number to simplify by would be by 2.

OpenStudy (butterflydreamer):

We have 12 tulips and 20 roses. We want to find the ratio of roses to TOTAL number of flowers ( 12 + 20 = 32) (meaning, roses : total flowers) Therefore this means we have the ratio 20 : 32 right? Note we have 20 roses and 32 flowers all together. Then from 20 :32 , you want to simplify the ratio even further :) so look at the numbers 20 and 32 and basically think of the largest number which BOTH 20 and 32 can be divided by .

and I got 10 to 16

OpenStudy (anonymous):

which simplifies to 5 to 8

OpenStudy (butterflydreamer):

correct ^_^! Good job

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so C

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Yep! :)

Thank you :)
