Would a triangle with a vertical length of 6 and a horizontal length of 10 have the same slope as the blue and red triangles shown in the graph? (the same one as before @johnweldon1993 )

OpenStudy (anonymous):

OpenStudy (johnweldon1993):

Well lets see...if we have 6:10 and we compare that to 2:3 how can we simplify down 6:10? well we can divide both numbers by 2...and that would give us 3:5 and since we cant simplify it anymore then NO the slopes wouldnt be the same

OpenStudy (johnweldon1993):

BUT that is just the red triangle...

OpenStudy (johnweldon1993):

What is the ratio for the blue triangle? vertical : horizontal

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I'm actually confused :/

OpenStudy (johnweldon1993):

Okay, so we'll start over.. The red triangle |dw:1430403644632:dw| meaning the slope is the 2/3 right? since slope = vertical / horizontal so we need to see if this slope would be the same for the one you are given...the new slope you are given is 6/10 is 2/3 the same as 6/10? Nope not at all...even if we simplify the 6/10 we would have 3/5 as the slope...so still not the same for the red triangle

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Thanks so much :o

OpenStudy (johnweldon1993):

Butttttt... that's just the red triangle...we need to work with the blue one now :P

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Oh ahaha

OpenStudy (anonymous):

xD

OpenStudy (johnweldon1993):

:P so the blue one... vertical : horizontal...what is it?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Umum 4:6 ?

OpenStudy (johnweldon1993):

Right... so... the slope we have is 4/6 The slope we are comparing to is 6/10 are those the same?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

umumum no?

OpenStudy (johnweldon1993):

Dont sound too sure...are you asking me or telling me :P

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I'm thinking no, but I'm not 100% sure. so both I guess?

OpenStudy (johnweldon1993):

Lol it is no.. you're basically trying to see if there is any number you can multiply 4/6 by to make 6/10 which you can't :)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

okay haha :)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

So it's No : the new slope would be 3:5?

OpenStudy (johnweldon1993):

Right :)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Thank youu! I only have two more things that confuse me which I'll put on a new question/s. Thanks!
