HELP! I have no idea what to do :/ Compute the following linear combinations: a. 4(1,7) – 2(5, -3) b. (-22.2, 19.9) + 3(-.8, 6.3)

OpenStudy (amistre64):

4(1,7) – 2(5, -3) might be better viewed as the sum of its parts 4(1x+7y) – 2(5x -3y) distribute and gather like parts

OpenStudy (anonymous):

So it would be (4x + 7y) - (10x - 6y)? Then as for like parts.. I put all the x's on one side and the y's on the other?

@amistre64

OpenStudy (amistre64):

jsut combine like parts now .. work the - tho

OpenStudy (amistre64):

4(1x+7y) – 2(5x -3y) 4x+28y –10x +6y our resulting vector is some ax + by, or (a,b)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

So it'd be -6x - 22y? Or is it supposed to be +?

OpenStudy (amistre64):

4x+28y –10x +6y 4x–10x +28y+6y (4–10)x +(28+6)y -6x +34y

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Ah, oops, okay. Thank you :) What about the second one?

OpenStudy (amistre64):

its the same concept ... what works here works there ... aplly it

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I see. That makes sense, thanks!

youre welcome
