Read this excerpt from "The Open Boat" by Stephen Crane. What effect do the underlined sentences have in showing the feelings of the crew? The crest of each of these waves was a hill, from the top of which the men surveyed, for a moment, a broad tumultuous expanse, shining and wind-riven. It was probably splendid. It was probably glorious, this play of the free sea, wild with lights of emerald and white and amber. this sentence is the underlined sentences "Bully good thing it's an on-shore wind," said the cook; "If not, where would we be? Wouldn't have a show."

They show the anxiety and fear of the crew at the thought of dying at sea. They show the anger of the crew at the thought of being stranded at sea. They show the ironic bitterness of the crew at nature’s indifference to their plight. They show the sadness of the crew at the thought of being left to die at sea. They show the sadness of the crew at nature’s indifference to their impending deaths.

it is to hard for me

OpenStudy (yanasidlinskiy):

Where was the "underlined sentence" supposed to be in that paragraph?

OpenStudy (yanasidlinskiy):

Meaning in between which sentences?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

"Bully good thing it's an on-shore wind," said the cook; "If not, where would we be? Wouldn't have a show."

OpenStudy (yanasidlinskiy):

No, no. You're not understanding what I'm trying to say. That sentence that you have posted above(Supposed to be underlined) is that just like a seperate sentence? Or it's part of the paragraph. If it's part of the paragraph, then where is it supposed to be?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

it is part and it is supposed to be at the boodom

OpenStudy (yanasidlinskiy):

Aha! Gotcha! Well, to be honest, I'm not exactly sure but I'll take a guess. I won't give you an answer, but I'll lead you to what I think.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i think it is A, B, D,or E

OpenStudy (yanasidlinskiy):

First of all, get the gist of what they are actually trying to say. Second, rule out the ones you think are incorrect and third pick your final answer. Hey! I really have to go, I'm cramming in on time. I'm really sorry for going but I have to go, as of I'm in campus ground right now.
