Which sentence uses correct punctuation? It was an extremely hot day, 99 degrees with a heat index of over 100 degrees. We never found the answer to our question, in fact, we’re still looking to this day. The play was an actual wedding party, the actors were funny, outgoing, and playful party guests who interacted with the audience. We walked through the Red Oak Nature Center today; it was surprising how many bicyclists were there. I want to say B o.o @vera_ewing

OpenStudy (vera_ewing):

I'd say D is correct.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

could you explain please?

OpenStudy (vera_ewing):

A semicolon is necessary for that sentence because it is two independent clauses.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

aah so like my last answer kind of?

OpenStudy (vera_ewing):

The first option needs dashes instead of just a comma.

OpenStudy (vera_ewing):

Well B and D both seem correct, so I'm not really sure.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Only D is the correct option... Here is why Choice A should be: It was an extremely hot day (99 degrees with a heat index of over 100 degrees.) or It was an extremely hot day; 99 degrees with a heat index of over 100 degrees. Choice B should be: We never found the answer to our question. In fact, we’re still looking to this day. Choice C should be: The play was an actual wedding party. The actors were funny, outgoing, and playful party guests who interacted with the audience. Choice D is the correct one because it splits them up with the semicolon, avoiding a run-on sentence :)

Ok I was just confused against B and D but now that you explained it did make since. @iheartfood Thank you again seonsangnim @vera_ewing

OpenStudy (anonymous):

you're welcome! glad to help :)

sense*

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Read the sentence. Every Sunday, we pick up Aunt Amy and my cousin on the way to visit grandmother. Which change should be made to correct the sentence? capitalize cousin lowercase Sunday lowercase Aunt capitalize grandmother wouldnt this be c @iheartfood

OpenStudy (anonymous):

no, it would not be because the name of the aunt is Amy, but you the person is referring to her as Aunt Amy. therefore the "Aunt" is apart of her name

OpenStudy (anonymous):

this should be D because Grandmother is the name she is called it would only stay lowercase if the sentence had read "...on my way to visit MY grandmother." does that make sense? :)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

also, in the future, post separately! You'll find more people can probably assist you! and this way, it won't get too cluttered in the thread :)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

aah so I would uppercase cousin since im referring to the cousn as mines? @iheartfood ok o.o *keeps in mind*

OpenStudy (anonymous):

A should be edited to one complete sentence.. B needs a semicolon after "question." C has a comma splice. D is correct In regards to the second question, the answer would be D because you are using the word "Grandmother" as her name.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

no, you would not capitalize "cousin" because you say "my cousin" you would only capitalize if Cousin is what you call them like so: Every Sunday, we pick up Aunt Amy and Cousin on the way to visit Grandmother. :)
