can someone explain to me what a Eukaryote and a prokaryote is and why they are different? i keep confusing them.

OpenStudy (matt101):

The main difference is that a eukaryote has a true nucleus (eu=good, karyo=nucleus), while a prokaryote does not (pro=before, karyo=nucleus). Eukaryotes also typically have membrane-bound organelles (in other words, the inside of the cell is further divided into smaller compartments that perform specific functions), while prokaryotes do not (so all cellular functions occur primarily in the cytoplasm of the cell and are not separated). Also, eukaryotes can be either unicellular or multicellular organisms, while prokaryotes are exclusively unicellular. Animals, plants, and fungi are all examples of eukaryotic organisms. Bacteria are examples of prokaryotic organisms.
