Linda's penny bank is 1/3 full. After she adds 520 pennies, it is 5/6 full. How many pennies can Linda's bank hold?

OpenStudy (phi):

let "x" be the number of pennies to fill the bank. if the bank is 1/3 full, any idea how to write that, using x ?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

1/3x ?

OpenStudy (phi):

ok now write that and add 520 pennies

OpenStudy (anonymous):

well 1/3 is equal to 2/6 so 520 pennies is 3/6 or 1/2 or what the bank can hold

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so it's 520 x 2

@phi @ryryfofo

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@jackmullen55 thank you

OpenStudy (anonymous):

No problem love. Any other questions?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Three consecutive integers have a sum of 57. Find the integers. how would I figure this out?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

So you want to use these variables x, x+1, x+2

OpenStudy (anonymous):

The equation would be \[x+x+1+x+2\] and then you want to add like terms together.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Making it now \[3x + 3 = 57\]

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@ryryfofo

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so 18.. thank you!
