Meiosis takes place in diploid cells. These are cells which have pairs of chromosomes. For example, in humans there are 23 pairs of chromosomes in the body cells. During meiosis the number of chromosomes is halved, so that haploid cells are produced. These are cells with only one chromosome from each pair. So in humans haploid cells contain 23 single chromosomes. The haploid cells produced in humans (and other animals) are the sex cells or gametes. These are the sperm cell in males and the egg cell in females. When fertilization takes place the gametes fuse and the diploid number of chromosomes is restored. So the simple answer to your question is egg cells and sperm cells (in humans and other animals).

so egg cell in female

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Wouldve replied faster but couldnt find your question haha. Human egg cells contain one set of 23 chromosomes. Because they contain half of the 46 chromosomes contained in body cells (2 sets of 23), the egg cells are said to be haploid

prokaryotes are the single-celled organisms and much smaller than eukaryotic cells. The prokaryotes are divided into two domains: the bacteria, unicellular microorganisms that have wide range of shapes and ubiquitous in habitat and the archaea, single-celled prokaryotic microorganisms similar to bacteria but possess some genes and several metabolic pathways that are closely related to those of eukaryotes. Exists in different shapes like, coccus, bacillus, spirillum, coccobacillus, and spirochete. While some of the prokaryotes are pleomorphic i.e. do not possess constant shape and some exists as aggregate communities.
