Mindy wants to solve the following system using the elimination method: y = x − 4 y = 2x − 3 What number should the equation y = x − 4 be multiplied by to eliminate x? A. −1 B. −2 C. −4 D. −6

What is the elimination method? Considering that they're all negative i'm guessing the addition method.

Ok, so with the addition method, we want the value we are eliminating to be the negative of the other same value. Since we want the x's to be eliminated we want it to be the negative of 2x. What would that be?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

what...

OpenStudy (anonymous):

What is the negative value of 2x?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

-2x? @LegendarySadist

Yes, it would be -2x. Now what would you have to muliply x to get -2x?
