Who discovered DNA molecules, and how?
James Watson and Francis Crick , they presented the structure of the DNA-helix, the molecule that carries genetic information from one generation to the other.
They did not discover DNA, the used information from Rosalind Franklin to guess at the structure of DNA and the guessed correctly, but at the time could not prove that it was correct. They totally screwed over Franklin and another (Gosling), without the data from those two Watson and Crick would be nothing, and if several more years Rosalind would have proven it herself.
DNA was isolated in 1871 by Friedrich Mieschner.
it was not DNA..it was nucleic acid from the the sperm of fish..DNA was discoverd by watson and crick
I agree with @mrdoldum except I wanted it to be in 1869. He simply named it "nuclein" as it was purified from the nuclei of human white blood cells. And already made a very accurate description by noticing it was a weakly acidic and phosphorus-rich chemical. Watson and Crick should only be associated with their model for nucleic acid structure and replication. Their model was confirmed by Rosalind Franklin and Maurice Wilkins in the late time of 1952. (one year before Watson and Crick published their article "Genetical implications of the structure of deoxyribonucleic acid")
@waqar90 No, they did not discover DNA. Not that Mieschner knew exactly what DNA was and how important it is, but he did first discover it.
