2sin(x+47) = 1, x∈[0, 360) I know the answer is 103 and 343 degrees but I'm not sure how to get there. Please help!

OpenStudy (xapproachesinfinity):

first multiply out by 1/2 to isolate sin( )

OpenStudy (xapproachesinfinity):

then ask your self what angles give 1/2 in the interval 0 to 360 meaning the full circle rotation

OpenStudy (anonymous):

30 and 150?

OpenStudy (xapproachesinfinity):

30 is good but 150 not

OpenStudy (xapproachesinfinity):

see that sin150 is negative 1/2 not 1/2

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I thought 150 degrees is in the 2nd quadrant so it's 1/2?

OpenStudy (xapproachesinfinity):

oh yeah sorry i'm thinking of 210 lol

OpenStudy (xapproachesinfinity):

you are correct

OpenStudy (xapproachesinfinity):

then solve x+47=150 or x+47=30

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I got 103 for the first one but for the second i got -17 instead of 343. I don't know where the 343 comes from in the solution, I don't know how to get there.

OpenStudy (xapproachesinfinity):

hmm do rotation clockwise and see if -17 actually is equivalent to that

OpenStudy (xapproachesinfinity):

-17 and keep adding rotation of 360

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Ah, I see. Got it. Thank you so much for the help!

OpenStudy (xapproachesinfinity):

should be equivalent the answer you got is correct
