OpenStudy (thefluffmuncher):
is that a combination or a permutation?
OpenStudy (thefluffmuncher):
i think its a permuation
OpenStudy (zarkon):
the albums are shuffled...so the order that you pick them does not matter
OpenStudy (thefluffmuncher):
what does that exactly mean?

OpenStudy (zarkon):
after you put the cd's in the player ...the player randomly pick a cd and then randomly pick a song.
OpenStudy (thefluffmuncher):
okay
OpenStudy (zarkon):
so it really doesn't matter what order you put the cd's in the player since they are going to be randomized
OpenStudy (thefluffmuncher):
so do i use this formula \[\frac{ n! }{ (n-r)!}\]
OpenStudy (zarkon):
that would be a permutation

OpenStudy (zarkon):
order matters in a permutation
OpenStudy (thefluffmuncher):
oh so i use combinations
OpenStudy (zarkon):
yes
OpenStudy (thefluffmuncher):
i don't really know the formula for combunations
OpenStudy (solomonzelman):
number of permutations is r! times greater than number of combinations:)

OpenStudy (zarkon):
\[\frac{n!}{r!(n-r)!}\]
OpenStudy (thefluffmuncher):
\[\frac{ 13!}{ 6!(7)!}\]
OpenStudy (thefluffmuncher):
like that?
OpenStudy (zarkon):
yes
OpenStudy (thefluffmuncher):
do i distribute?

OpenStudy (thefluffmuncher):
or what?
OpenStudy (zarkon):
distribute what?
OpenStudy (thefluffmuncher):
the 6 to the 7
OpenStudy (zarkon):
computer 6!,7! and 13!
OpenStudy (zarkon):
*compute

OpenStudy (thefluffmuncher):
13!=6227020800
6!=720
7!=5040
OpenStudy (thefluffmuncher):
that what got
OpenStudy (zarkon):
now compute \[\frac{13!}{6!\times 7!}\]
OpenStudy (thefluffmuncher):
1716?
OpenStudy (zarkon):
yes

awesome thanks for explaining
OpenStudy (zarkon):
np
OpenStudy (thefluffmuncher):
so just to recap
premutations=order matters
combunations= order doesn't matter
OpenStudy (zarkon):
yes
