OpenStudy (albert0898):

How do you do Q33, 34, 36 from this PRACTICE test (a test from 3 years ago)? http://www.jmap.org/JMAPRegentsExamArchives/ALGEBRA2TRIGONOMETRYEXAMS/ExamAnswers/0612a2ans.pdf

OpenStudy (amistre64):

33 is already spelled out for you, what is it you dont get?

OpenStudy (amistre64):

34 is just finding width and height to find area with

OpenStudy (amistre64):

36 is just a nightmare looking, but it simplifies when factored

OpenStudy (albert0898):

For 33, where do I plug the number in?

OpenStudy (amistre64):

you ahve a rule stated, what is your rule?

OpenStudy (albert0898):

ak + 1 = 2ak - 1

OpenStudy (amistre64):

thats a bit messy: now tell me what you think that rule tells us ...

OpenStudy (amistre64):

what does a_{k+1} and a_{k} represent to us?

OpenStudy (albert0898):

I have not a clue :/

OpenStudy (amistre64):

then you havent done any studying about it. take a guess, you might surprize yourself ....

OpenStudy (albert0898):

The term in the sequence?

OpenStudy (amistre64):

we are given a term named a_{1} so the subscripts tell us about the terms i the sequnce yes if k=1, what does k+1 mean?

OpenStudy (albert0898):

2

OpenStudy (amistre64):

good, and if k=21, what does k+1 give us?

OpenStudy (albert0898):

22

OpenStudy (amistre64):

good, so this simply tells us how one term relates to the one before it. the next term, is simply the term before, doubled, and less by 1

OpenStudy (amistre64):

we know a_{1}, what is a_{2} ? a_{2} = 2a_{1} - 1

OpenStudy (albert0898):

OHHHHH!!! Now I get it. Thank you!

OpenStudy (amistre64):

:) good luck with that. 34 is just trig stuff, mostly memorized definitions to find a height

OpenStudy (amistre64):

|dw:1431651683123:dw|

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

I'm probably too late at this point, but this might be still helpful. See attached.

OpenStudy (amistre64):

we know a, we want to know h, and we have an angle to play with what trig (its already given in the answer there) uses these sides for a ratio?

OpenStudy (albert0898):

Sin (Opp/Hyp)

OpenStudy (amistre64):

Area = bh sin(angle) = h/a h = a sin(angle) therefore: Area = ab sin(angle)

OpenStudy (amistre64):

and 36 is just an exercise in factoring to find common factors above and below the fraction bars.

OpenStudy (kidrah69):

Here are all the answers to your test i took this earlier have fun! :) And o got a 100% so its totallly worth copying off of :) here: http://pages.citebite.com/a4o3b6r4a2tjy

OpenStudy (♪chibiterasu):

D-> 8AAHHAHAHAHHA

OpenStudy (♪chibiterasu):

D-> E%cept10nal. 10/10

OpenStudy (albert0898):

@kidrah69 I wasn't asking for answers, rather an approach. I could care less about the answers. Knowledge is power, not answers...

OpenStudy (kidrah69):

Did you even click the link?

OpenStudy (albert0898):

Yea. I don't appreciate sarcasm.

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

The answers are already given in the original file anyway.

OpenStudy (kidrah69):

Yeah i dont appreciate people asking test questions.

OpenStudy (♪chibiterasu):

D-> Sarcasm 1s typ1cally humur0us. As 1t was 1n th1s case. 8AHAHA.

eclipsedstar (eclipsedstar):

No helping on a test. Period.

OpenStudy (albert0898):

This is actually my homework, not a test. This test is from 3 years ago.

OpenStudy (kidrah69):

So why is it being done now?

OpenStudy (albert0898):

If you guys would actually look at when this test is from that'd be great. June 2012. It's 2015.

OpenStudy (albert0898):

It's my homework to practice for an upcoming test in June.

OpenStudy (kidrah69):

We take ISAT's the years on those are screwed up too c: so its why we thought it was a test maybe change the name of your file.

OpenStudy (♪chibiterasu):

D-> "Th1s test" 1s n0t the same as "an upc0m1ng test" 0r "a test 1'm currently tak1ng".
