An equation of the line tangent to the circle X^2+y^2=34 at (-3,-5)

OpenStudy (tkhunny):

Have you considered calculating the Gradient at the point (-3,-5)?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

can you use calculus? please say yes

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I just need a formula. Will point slope form work?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

no because you only have one point

OpenStudy (tkhunny):

If you can find the slope, the point will be sufficient.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

there is a real long annoying way to do this without calculus, but i forget it something abou the discriminat of some quadratic being zero with calulus it is a snap

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Okay, I'll try it the calculus way

OpenStudy (anonymous):

take the derivative using implicit diff, solve for \(y'\) then plug in the numebers

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I figured it out. Thank you.
