jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):
the diameter of this circle is 42 ft?
OpenStudy (anonymous):
yep
jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):
you will use the formula
C = pi*d
C = circumference
pi = 3.14 approximately
d = diameter
jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):
alternatively you can use
C = 2*pi*r
r = radius
but 2*r = d so it's easier to use the first version
OpenStudy (anonymous):
look im no math genius like you can you say that in a better understanding way ... :)

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):
you take pi and the diameter and multiply them
"pi" is just a number
pi = 3.14 approximately
jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):
so you're just going to do 3.14 times the diameter to get the circumference
OpenStudy (anonymous):
3.14 x ??? im sorry im really stupid and bad at math whats the diameter?
jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):
42 like you said above
OpenStudy (anonymous):
ohh

131.88
jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):
then you round to the nearest whole number
jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):
since they say "to the nearest foot"
OpenStudy (anonymous):
130
jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):
132 actually
131.88 is closest to 132

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):
sure, go ahead jozy
OpenStudy (anonymous):
ok
OpenStudy (anonymous):
a circle has a diameter of 8 cm. what is its radious??
jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):
take the diameter and cut it in half to get the radius

find the circumfernece of the circle. round your answer to the nearest centimeter
jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):
formula
C = 2*pi*r
C = circumference
pi = 3.14 approximately
r = radius
jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):
the * means multiply
OpenStudy (anonymous):
3.14 * 2* r right?

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):
yes
jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):
replace r with the radius
the radius in this case is 2.5
OpenStudy (anonymous):
so 15.7
jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):
yes
OpenStudy (anonymous):
so thats the answer

now " round your answer to the nearest centimeter"
OpenStudy (anonymous):
16.0
jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):
correct or 16
OpenStudy (anonymous):
alright only two more??? oh by the way thank you

are you sure that "cannot" isn't a typo?
I see 3 possible answers here
OpenStudy (anonymous):
nope
jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):
well the diameter is the longest chord of a circle
so 15 is the longest you can get in terms of a chord
OpenStudy (anonymous):
wait hold on
OpenStudy (anonymous):
i put the wrong answers down sorry a little tierd :D

the diameter of a circle is 15 in which measure below cannot be a chord on the same circle
4
9
18
15
jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):
so anything that's larger than the diameter isn't possible
OpenStudy (anonymous):
yes
OpenStudy (anonymous):
ayee if this is to hard i can just go onto the next one which is the last one
jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):
I pretty much gave you the answer lol

correct
OpenStudy (anonymous):
i feel so bad that im doing this im sorry ill do the last one
