A direct variation function contains the points (–8, –6) and (12, 9). Which equation represents the function? would the answer be k= -3/4 or k= 3/4 ?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i'm thinking 3/4

OpenStudy (johnweldon1993):

Well we set up the equation for a direct variation \[\large y = kx\] Lets take a point... (-8, -6) Plug that in \[\large -6 = k(-8)\] And solve for 'k' to get *indeed* 3/4
