The graph shows the amount of money paid when purchasing bags of peanuts at the zoo: A graph is shown. The x-axis is labeled from 0 to 9. The y-axis is labeled from 0 to 13. Four points are shown on the graph on ordered pairs 0, 0 and 1, 4 and 2, 8 and 3, 12. These points are joined by a line. The label on the x-axis is Bags of peanuts. The title on the y-axis is Total cost in dollars. What does the point (0, 0) on the graph represent? The cost of one bag of peanuts The cost of zero bags of peanuts The cost of two bags of peanuts The cost of three bags of peanuts

@nuccioreggie Hints: The graph shows the function of the number of bags of peanuts (x-axis) and the cost of the purchase (y-axis). The ordered pair (1,4) represents (x,y), or (number of bags, total cost in dollars).

I suggest you copy and paste the answer, instead of using letters which are only for computers that cannot understand English. The reason is that while you copy and paste the answer, it gives a last visual check and also helps you learn what you're doing. This way, you're committing to a verbal answer that you can register, instead of letters which doesn't mean anything after 10 seconds. Meanwhile, I repeat what the numbers in the ordered pair mean: The ordered pair (1,4) represents (x,y), or (number of bags, total cost in dollars), or "one bag of peanuts costs 4 dollars". Try interpreting (2,8) similarly by reading it aloud, and your answer will click!

OpenStudy (nuccioreggie):

I know what you are sayin but i cant copy in paste thats what im trying to tell you i have to choose an answer

OpenStudy (nuccioreggie):

@mathmate

OpenStudy (nuccioreggie):

So its A?

OpenStudy (nuccioreggie):

@mathmate

OpenStudy (mathmate):

Can you please copy and paste the answer A, and read it aloud, even though I don't hear it, and you may look like talking to yoursel! lol Remember that the question asks for the interpretation of (0,0).

OpenStudy (nuccioreggie):

Answer choices The cost of one bag of peanuts The cost of zero bags of peanuts The cost of two bags of peanuts The cost of three bags of peanuts

OpenStudy (nuccioreggie):

The cost of one bag of peanuts The cost of zero bags of peanuts The cost of two bags of peanuts The cost of three bags of peanuts

OpenStudy (nuccioreggie):

@mathmate

OpenStudy (mathmate):

You have already posted the answer choices, I want you to post the answer you choose (in a sentence), not just a letter.

OpenStudy (nuccioreggie):

I choose The cost of one baf of penuts

OpenStudy (nuccioreggie):

G

OpenStudy (mathmate):

Does it mean that you are choosing "the cost of one bag of peanuts" for the point (0,0)?

OpenStudy (nuccioreggie):

Yea what do you think the answer is

OpenStudy (mathmate):

I would say that "the cost of one bag of peanuts is $4" would correspond to the point (1,4) because the ordered pair (x,y) corresponds to (#of bags, cost), so (1,4) corresponds to 1 bag of peanuts costs $4. Would you like to post another answer for (0,0)?

OpenStudy (nuccioreggie):

So u think its A?

OpenStudy (mathmate):

What is A?

OpenStudy (nuccioreggie):

Look at the answer choises i put in the comments

OpenStudy (mathmate):

I do not work with letter choices. I want you to spell or read or post the answer, not letters, please.

OpenStudy (nuccioreggie):

What does the point (0, 0) on the graph represent? The cost of one bag of peanuts The cost of zero bags of peanuts The cost of two bags of peanuts The cost of three bags of peanuts I say the first answer

OpenStudy (mathmate):

I do not want ALL the answer, I just want the ONE that you think is the correct answer, in a sentence, not in a letter form. THis is done to help you understand the problem, and avoid communication errors.

OpenStudy (mathmate):

I repeat (in words) the example I gave earlier: The ordered pair (x,y) means that x bags of peanuts cost y dollars. For example, (1,4) means 1 bag of peanuts cost 4 dollars. What does (0,0) mean?

OpenStudy (nuccioreggie):

The cost of one bags of penuts represent (0,0) on the graph

OpenStudy (mathmate):

@nuccioreggie In the example I gave above, 1 bag of peanuts comes from the first number of the ordered pair (1,4), and 4 dollars comes from the second number of (1,4). This is a shorthand for the statement : one bag of peanuts costs 4 dollars. What sentence do you think would appropriately represent the ordered pair (0,0)?

OpenStudy (nuccioreggie):

One bag of penuts cost 4 dollars

OpenStudy (mathmate):

Perhaps you didn't get the point of the exercise. The point is not to find the cost of peanuts. It's a practice on the meaning of the numbers within the ordered pair (0,0). You could say (1,4) means one bag of peanuts costs 4 dollars, or equivalently (2,8) means 2 bags of peanuts cost 8 dollars, and so on. They are all valid statements, because the equivalent costs are the same. However, we're here to learn the meaning of the symbol ordered pair. (0,0) does not say the same thing as (1,4) even though the cost of peanuts is the same in both cases. (0,0) is used to mean zero bag of peanuts cost zero dollars (1,4) is used to mean one bag of peanuts cost four dollars (2,8) is used to mean two bag of peanuts cost 8 dollars and so on.|dw:1431972301095:dw|
