Help for a medal O.o

OpenStudy (welshfella):

if y varies directly with x then y = kx where k is some number k = y/x so if you take the values of x and y from the table and plug them in to the above formula for k and find that k is the same for all 3 sets of values then you have shown that y does vary directly with x

OpenStudy (howard-wolowitz):

I would think it would! Because you cant get each value by *4

OpenStudy (welshfella):

I'll do the first one for you x = -2 y = -8 plugging in these values k = -8/-2 = 4

OpenStudy (welshfella):

now do the same thing with the other 2 sets of values and see if you get k = 4 each time

OpenStudy (howard-wolowitz):

you do.. it cant be negative beause they are already negative

OpenStudy (howard-wolowitz):

what do you use k for though

OpenStudy (welshfella):

well once you find k you plug its value back into the original formula you will then hav a formula relating y and x so if k = 4 then replace k in y = kx to get y = 4x

OpenStudy (howard-wolowitz):

so k=4 aswell

OpenStudy (welshfella):

k = 4 yes so which option do you think is correct?

OpenStudy (howard-wolowitz):

B

OpenStudy (welshfella):

yup

OpenStudy (howard-wolowitz):

sweet
