Hi I was wondering if someone could please help me understand how to get the slope of a graph, if so you can either explain it down there or just message me please and thank you!?

OpenStudy (johnweldon1993):

Hmm, well which graph...straight line or otherwise? :)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Like this one.

OpenStudy (johnweldon1993):

Okay so a linear graph (straight line) are easy to calculate Specifically this one..because you are given points on the line So, to find the slope...point out to me 2 points that are on this line :)

OpenStudy (johnweldon1993):

|dw:1432147541517:dw| So 2 points on that line are (0,2) and (1,0)

OpenStudy (johnweldon1993):

So we know that slope = rise/run In order to find the slope...we need how much 'y' changes...and how much 'x' changes Or in other words..we have 2 points \[\large (0,2) \rightarrow (x_1, y_1)\] \[\large (1,0) \rightarrow (x_2, y_2)\] We find the slope by writing an equation that shows us how much they change...or \[\large Slope = \frac{y_2 - y_1}{x_2 - x_1}\]

Thank you! @johnweldon1993

OpenStudy (johnweldon1993):

Of course :)
