rustem help

OpenStudy (mle):

Hello @bob55555 and Welcome to OpenStudy! to solve for r we want to get r alone on one side so let's try subtracting 16 from both sides first 16 + r/2 = -11 -16 -16 ---------------- what would you get?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

-32 and -5

OpenStudy (mle):

not quite ^_^ we subtracted 16 to get ride of the original 16 16 - 16 = 0 right? and -11 - 16 = -27 do you see how I got those numbers?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so thats the answer

OpenStudy (anonymous):

is -27 the answer

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Mle

OpenStudy (mle):

not yet we now have r/2 = -27 but the 2 is still stuck to the r that we want so we should multiply both sides by 2 (1/2) * 2 = 1 and (-27) * 2 = -54 so r = ^

OpenStudy (anonymous):

whats the answer Mle

OpenStudy (mle):

(1/2) * 2 = 1 and (-27) * 2 = -54 so r = ^

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so its -54

OpenStudy (mle):

that's right :)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ok another

OpenStudy (anonymous):

What is the solution to this equation? \large \mathbf{2(2-j) = 4(j + 10)} j = _______

OpenStudy (anonymous):

there it is

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Mle

OpenStudy (mle):

2(2-j) = 4(j + 10) first we would use distributive property to multiply everything out a(b - c) = ab - ac so 2(2-j) = 4 - 2j do you see how that works? can you do 4(j + 10) = ?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

idk

OpenStudy (anonymous):

no i cant

OpenStudy (mle):

ok 2(2 - j) became 2*2 - 2*j which is how it equals 4 - 2j so for 4(j + 10) becomes 4*j + 4*10 = 4j + 40 so now we have 4 - 2j = 4j + 40

OpenStudy (mle):

from there we can add 2j to both sides 4 - 2j = 4j + 40 +2j +2j ---------------- and get 4 = 6j + 40 then subtract 40 from both sides 4 = 6j + 40 -40 -40 ------------- and get -36 = 6j 6j = -36 all we have to do from there is to divide by 6

OpenStudy (mle):

negative 36 divided by 6 = [answer]

OpenStudy (anonymous):

6 right Mle

OpenStudy (anonymous):

r = -54
